Botanical artists of all skill levels often shy away from depicting yellow or white flowers.

The challenge lies in capturing a full range of values to create contrast—without making yellow flowers appear muddy, or white flowers too dark.

In my early-spring drawing workshops, daffodils have always been my go-to subject.

After many failed attempts, I finally felt confident enough to share what I’d learned with my students—breakthroughs, mistakes, and all.

White flowers also presented their own unique hurdles, so I decided to combine both approaches into a book I plan to self-publish.
