About
Heidi Sandecki is a visual artist whose work spans graphic design and fine art, navigating seamlessly between the two as they mutually inform her practice.
Growing up as a child with undiagnosed dyslexia, Heidi struggled academically in elementary and middle school.
By age twelve, she demonstrated a natural talent for drawing, which led her to study oil painting with Celestine Murphy Hoffman at The Ridgewood Art Institute. This ultimately inspired her to pursue a career in the visual arts.
Heidi’s appreciation for botanicals began during summer visits to her grandparents’ farm in Roxbury, New York. Her art reflects this enduring connection, honoring the beauty and distinctive character of individual plant life.
Heidi has a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and an MFA from the School of Visual Arts. She is also a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists, and has exhibited at many venues where she has received awards and recognition for her work.
With over 25 years of teaching experience, Heidi has worked in a variety of settings—from adult schools and museums to several universities in New Jersey and NYC.
Heidi teaches adult classes in drawing, watercolor painting, and botanical drawing. Her classes emphasize the importance of engaging with the subject matter being depicted, while encouraging personal expression in each student’s creative journey. She also gives lectures to local arboretums, and environmental centers related to the history of botanical art and the annual Botanical Worldwide Art Day.
